TRAVELLING SCIENCE PRESENTER/COMMUNICATOR

Description
This is an opportunity to be a part of the Science Roadshow (www.scienceroadshow.nz), an exciting hands-on programme that engages with over 40,000 students from more than 400 schools annually. You will be part of a small team involved in the delivery of science-based shows and exhibits primarily to school audiences. When working away from home team members normal rotation is 4 weeks “On Duty”, 1 week paid “Off Duty”. Paid lieu weeks are in addition to your 4 weeks annual leave entitlement.

This role would ideally suit applicants from the following backgrounds:
• Science graduate or someone with an interest in science and travel
• Teaching
• Theatre or tourism.

Duties
• Exhibition installation and removal from each venue
• Preparing shows
• Training student assistants
• Delivery of verbal presentations with a fellow presenter (with the aid of props) to groups of students
• Administrative tasks
• Exhibit care/maintenance.

Essential Skills:
• Excellent oral presentation and communication skills
• A high level of initiative and a ‘can do’ attitude
• Class 1 driver’s licence (minimum restricted)
• Good level of fitness as you will be on your feet and moving equipment at least 2-3 times weekly.

Other useful skills may include:
• Experience in teaching or theatre
• A tertiary science qualification
• Trades experience/qualification(s)
• Class 5 driver’s licence
• Te Reo Māori

Where will you work?
Both nationally and around Auckland.

Auckland Operations (Feb, March, April and early June)
During Auckland operations you will live at home and programme delivery will be to schools in the
Auckland region. February will involve programme preparation from our base in South Auckland.
While operating in Auckland (for programme preparation and delivery), lieu and other “outside of
Auckland” provisions will not apply. You will live at home and travel to programme venues as
required throughout Auckland. The Trust will provide a vehicle for travel to and from your home to
our work locations or pre-agree a mileage rate for use of personal vehicle.

National Operations 0utside of Auckland (May, mid June – December)
Delivery will be to schools in the remainder of the North Island and South Island. All meals,
accommodation (shared house or motel unit and very occasionally a shared room) and travel will
be paid for by the Roadshow. You will be rostered 4 weeks on, 1 week off (paid lieu) or equivalent.
Time away (“on”) includes weekends, but there is normally no weekend work. You will be
responsible for getting yourself to and from Auckland Airport at either end of your duty rotations.

Annual leave is normally taken during December/January each year.

Salary:
$48-$53k per annum (depending on experience) + meals, accommodation and travel

Please note:
A police check is mandatory, as is holding a Class 1 licence (at least restricted)
Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.
All employees are required to comply with health guidelines for working in schools — which can
change. A COVID vaccination is recommended.

4 March 2024 or earlier by arrangement.
